HVAC Industry Trends to Look Out for in 2017

Check out the latest trends in HVAC!

2017 is all about energy efficiency and the HVAC industry is no exception. As your customers and colleagues stress the importance of green practices, make sure your company is meeting all regulations and standards.

Cooling Down

All over the world, governments are phasing out the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) as a way to lower the risk of Global Warming Potential refrigerants. For example, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has banned the use of HFCs R-134a and R-410A (effective January 2024), and the Canadian government has set a maximum 700 GWP limit for air conditioning chillers. According to the Canadian government, eliminating the use of  HFCs can prevent up to .5 degrees Celsius of global warming.

Heating Up

This year, it’ll be in your best interest to keep your eye on a rating systems that will gain attention across the country. While LEEDS is still prominent, Green Globes is beginning to gain momentum. The program was initially developed in Canada and was acquired for use in the US by the Green Building initiative. Green Globes/BESt is a self-assessment tool based on ASHRAE that is similar to LEEDs in its requirements.

Taking Action

The U.S. may be withdrawn as a signatory of the Paris Agreement, but many cities are taking action to achieve the goals of the agreement. Inspired by Vancouver’s Zero Emissions Building Plan, American cities are brushing up on certification knowledge and getting ready to take advantage of new green trends. Source
